Job summary

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is a statutory body dedicated to promoting Hong Kong's trade through research, exhibitions, and business initiatives. We seek a dynamic professional to conduct market and economic research, monitor overseas developments, and develop forecasts for key sectors.

Responsibilities include presenting findings to diverse readers, collaborating with teams, and undertaking research trips as needed.

Qualifications

• A good university degree in Economics or a related discipline, with training in statistics and econometrics.
• A minimum of three years of relevant working experience in economic research, market analysis or related fields.
• Strong writing and presentation skills in English and Chinese; Putonghua is an added advantage.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint; knowledge of statistical software (SPSS) and data sources is preferred.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is a statutory body established in 1966 to promote, assist and develop Hong Kong's trade. With 51 offices globally, including 13 in the Chinese Mainland, the HKTDC promotes Hong Kong as a two-way global investment and business hub.

The HKTDC organises international exhibitions, conferences and business missions to create business opportunities for companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in the mainland and international markets. The HKTDC also provides up-to-date market insights and product information via research reports and digital news channels.

We are seeking a dynamic, high-calibre and experienced professional to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Independently conduct market and economic research on topics of strategic relevance to Hong Kong's trade and business community, and support the Council's business development and strategic initiatives;
• Monitor, analyse and provide timely insights on overseas market developments, regulatory changes and trade policy measures affecting Hong Kong's key export sectors, industries and business clusters;
• Assess trade and business prospects, and develop trade forecasts for assigned markets, industries and business clusters, identifying emerging opportunities, challenges and implications for Hong Kong enterprises;
• Maintain frequent contacts with official bodies and the business community in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and overseas;
• Handle research projects independently as well as work as a team player with colleagues;
• Undertake research trips to emerging and mature markets;
• Provide insightful and timely analysis derived from research projects and market monitoring to support the Council and stakeholders in tapping Mainland and overseas opportunities;
• Present research findings effectively to the public and general business readers.

Requirements

• A good university degree in Economics or a related discipline, with training in statistics and econometrics. Knowledge of forecasting models and further quantitative analytical techniques would be an advantage;
• A minimum of three years of relevant working experience in economic research, market analysis, trade research or a related field;
• Strong analytical skills and communication skills;
• Strong writing and presentation skills in both English and Chinese. Proficiency in Putonghua is an added advantage;
• Ability in transforming rigorous research findings into interesting and stimulating articles and reports for general business readers;
• A team player with strong initiatives, able to manage multiple projects and work under pressure;
• Conversant in computing skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, statistical software packages (e.g. SPSS, Tableau Creator and Python) and relevant databases (e.g. CEIC and GTA).

Candidate with more experience might be considered for a senior position.

Remuneration and Benefits
