Job summary

UOW College Hong Kong is seeking a part-time Student Counsellor to provide individual and group counselling for students, and to support those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to enhance learning and development.

You will work with academic and administrative units to identify and support students facing academic, personal, emotional, or behavioural challenges, and help plan wellbeing programmes. Strong organisational skills and independence are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or related discipline.
• At least three years post-qualification counselling experience in personal, career or student counselling.
• Solid knowledge of student development, mental health and wellbeing in young adults.
• Good digital literacy including AI-enabled tools and standard computer applications.
• Experience supporting students with SEN, learning difficulties or mental health concerns is advantageous.
• Strong organizational and case management skills; able to manage multiple priorities.

Job description

UOW College Hong Kong ("UOWCHK") is an approved post-secondary college registered under the Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance (Cap 320). Being part of the University of Wollongong (UOW) in Australia, our students' learning experiences are enriched through visits by UOW academics or exchange programmes with UOW and its network universities in Malaysia, Dubai and India.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

Provide individual and group counselling services to students;

Support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by assessing their needs and coordinating appropriate support services to facilitate their learning and development;

Work with academic and administrative units to identify and support students experiencing academic, personal, emotional, or behavioural difficulties;

Collaborate with Faculties in the planning and implementation of student development and wellbeing programmes that support students’ adjustment to College life and preparation for further study and employment;

Assist in handling student crisis cases and support the co-ordination of appropriate interventions and follow-up actions with academic staff, families, and external service providers;

Contribute to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of student support initiatives and new projects;

Maintain appropriate records and prepare reports related to counselling and student support services; and

Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

Applicants should possess:

a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, or a related discipline;

at least three years of post-qualification experience in personal, career, or student counselling for young people, preferably gained in a tertiary or educational setting;

sound knowledge of student development, mental health, and wellbeing issues affecting young adults;

good digital literacy, including proficiency in AI-enabled tools and standard computer applications;

experience in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), learning difficulties, or mental health concerns, which will be an advantage;

strong organisational and case management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic environment; and

the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with academic and administrative teams.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be appointed on a fractional basis of three days per week under an initial six-month contract. Subject to operational requirements and satisfactory performance, it is anticipated that the appointment may be extended beyond the initial contract period.
