Job summary

The Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education invites applications for an Associate Professor in Psychology and/or Counselling, to commence on 3 August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal.

The appointee will join a collegial team advancing psychological science and counselling practice across undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programmes, with strong links to schools and NGOs.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Educational Psychology, or related field.
  • Excellent publication record in leading international journals.
  • Evidence of successful grant applications appropriate to rank.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research in counselling, psychology, or educational psychology with publications.
  • Lead or participate in external funding and collaborative projects.
  • Teach and develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervise theses.
  • Supervise practicum/fieldwork with partners such as schools and NGOs.
  • Take on academic leadership roles and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Engage in knowledge transfer and community services related to mental health and wellbeing.

Job description

Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor in Psychology and/or Counselling, to commence on 3 August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewal.

The Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education traces its roots to 1932 and is a College in Hong Kong with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. The College hosts a vibrant community of scholars and practitioners in psychology, counselling, and education, with strong links to schools, NGOs, and other community partners.

The appointee will join a collegial team dedicated to advancing psychological science and counselling practice, contributing to high-quality programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional levels.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct high-quality research in counselling, counselling psychology, or educational psychology, or closely related areas that leads to publications in leading international journals.
  • Secure competitive external research funding and lead or participate in collaborative research projects.
  • Teach and develop courses in counselling and/or psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of honours projects, dissertations, and higher degree research students.
  • Contribute to practicum and/or fieldwork supervision for counselling or psychology trainees, in collaboration with schools, NGOs, and other community partners as appropriate.
  • Take up academic leadership and service roles such as programme coordination, curriculum development, and committee work within the Department and University.
  • Engage in knowledge transfer and community/professional services related to mental health, student development, and wellbeing.
Job Requirements:
  • Possess a doctoral degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrate an excellent record of scholarship and research, including a strong publication record in leading international journals and evidence of successful grant applications commensurate with rank.
  • Have a solid record of successful teaching at the tertiary level and experience in curriculum and programme development.
  • Show evidence of supervision of postgraduate students and/or professional trainees (e.g. counselling, educational or school psychology trainees) is highly desirable.
  • Preferably have professional training and/or registration in counselling or psychology (e.g. as a counselling psychologist, educational psychologist, clinical psychologist, or equivalent), and experience delivering counselling or psychological services in educational or community settings.
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to high-quality teaching, student development, and professional and community service.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English; proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Putonghua) will be an advantage but is not essential, depending on programme needs.
Salary and Fringe Benefits:

Initial appointment will normally be made on a renewable 36-month contract.

Remuneration is competitive and will be based on qualifications and relevant experience. The College offers group medical insurance and dental, staff development support and leave provisions (annual leave, birthday leave, college leave, etc) to eligible appointe.
