Matilda & War Memorial Hospital is seeking a dedicated kitchen assistant to support cooking teams in ingredients preparation and safe handling of food. You will help chefs maintain hygiene, assist with logistics across stations, and learn culinary techniques for daily hospital operations.
The role requires a diploma or vocational culinary training and 1–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in hotels or private hospitals. A competitive remuneration package is offered.
Supporting cooking teams in ingredients and food preparation, e.g. washing, peeling, chopping, dice-cutting, slicing, etc.
Adhering to goods preservation standard for proper handling of all food materials / products at the right place and right temperature for goods receiving, storage and sanitation
Supporting chefs in ensuring hygiene, food safety and correct use of equipment and utensils and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workplace in compliance with statutory / Hospital standards
Providing ad-hoc support to cleaning / cashier / meal delivery team when needed
Providing logistics support across various kitchen stations (hot, cold, pastry, etc.) when needed during busy service hours
Preparing food expiry labels, conducting periodic checks of expiry dates and replenishment
Providing operational / administrative support to Chief Chef when needed
Learning fundamental culinary knowledge / techniques to better support daily operation of the Department and personal development
Entry Requirements
Diploma or vocational training or culinary school certificate, or equivalent
1 - 3 years’ relevant experience / knowledge in western / Chinese kitchen setting (preferably gained from hotels / private hospitals)
Proactive and well organized with attention to details
Good team player, able to work in fast pace & dynamic environment, & communicate with kitchen staff
More experienced candidates may be considered for appropriate position
