Overview
Sr Tax Accountant
Location: UK remote
Aptean is seeking an EMEA Sr Tax Accountant with 5-6 years of experience for a remote role in the UK. This hands-on position involves broad responsibilities, including ensuring the timely and compliant filing of direct and indirect tax returns for EMEA entities within a fast-growing, private equity-backed group. The role requires adaptability in a dynamic environment, with a focus on process improvements and efficiencies as the company continues to expand through acquisitions. It offers exposure to a wide range of tax topics across Europe.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing year-end tax returns, coordinating with local advisors to ensure tax compliance in UK, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Poland, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Spain, Finland, and Sweden.
- Calculate and submit advance tax payments across these countries.
- Supervise the filing of VAT returns for the above countries, addressing external and internal queries, and ensuring compliance.
- Assist with ad-hoc tax compliance issues, researching with advisors and coordinating with internal teams for process changes.
- Manage R&D claims.
- Ensure transfer pricing calculations are accurate and coordinate with internal teams for revisions if needed.
- Submit tax residency certificates across EMEA.
- Assist with EMEA accounting and reconciliation of tax accounts.
- Support year-end global provisions for consolidated group audits under US GAAP.
- Assist with the implementation of tax engine and e-invoicing software to comply with the European Commission’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) proposal.
- Help address the impact of BEPS 2.0: Pillar One and Pillar Two on the group.
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of technical accounting principles, backed by a recognized professional accountancy qualification.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with high commitment.
- Disciplined self-starter with a proactive attitude, capable of working within a matrix organization.
- High attention to accuracy, data integrity, and process improvements.
- Flexible, adaptable, and experienced in change management, maintaining calm under pressure.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to analyze large, complex datasets and summarize findings effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Required: Solid understanding of accounting standards, experience in a tax department, with commerce background preferred but practice considered. Experience with taxes across Europe is necessary, not necessarily in every country we operate in.
- Preferred: Experience in accounting/finance within a global software industry.
- Recognized accounting qualification (CIMA, ACA, ACCA).
