Overview

Have you ever thought about a career in Health Visiting? Are you highly motivated and keen to develop your skills working with children and families in the community? If so, this is an exciting time to be considering a career as a Public Health Practitioner within the 0‑19 Healthy Child Programme.

Cambridgeshire Community Services are pleased to offer the opportunity for a fully qualified and experienced Registered Nurse or Midwife to join our team in the delivery of the 0‑19 Healthy Child Programme across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We have vacancies in Fenland, St Ives and Huntingdon. The role requires a current NMC registration and relevant experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver services as part of the 0‑19 years Healthy Child Programme, including Universal New Birth contacts, 6‑week checks, 1‑ and 2‑year reviews, transfer‑in contacts, school health assessments and other required contacts.
  • Work within the 0‑19 pathway under the direction of Locality Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN), managing your own caseload for identified children and young people.
  • Deliver care in a variety of settings such as schools, clinics, client homes and community venues.
  • Participate in the delivery of services for identified health priorities and promote the service at relevant events.
  • Review records of children moving in/out of the area according to agreed guidelines/protocols, and assist in the delivery of Public Health group activities such as themed drop‑ins and health days.
  • Report any concerns to the HCP 0‑19 Team Leader or Locality SCPHN.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, child protection and family support processes, including attending relevant training and may be required to attend conferences and report under a SCPHN qualified practitioner.
  • Act as practice supervisor or assessor for student nurses following approved training.
  • Support the Duty Clinician with Text Us and Duty Desk administration and digital service support on a rotational basis.
  • Lead child health clinics.
Communication
  • Develop strong links with local multi‑agency providers and maintain effective communication with children, young people, parents, carers and professionals.
  • Signpost families to appropriate resources, including online services, to support health literacy and empower families to take responsibility for their health needs.
  • Support the development of digital technologies and promote innovative ways to use them for service users.
  • Provide advice and support for school staff to access online resources supporting high quality PSHE and health literacy.
  • Build relationships with key partners from statutory and voluntary sector agencies to facilitate referrals and information sharing.
Clinical and Practice Governance
  • Maintain current NMC registration and ensure continued professional registration.
  • Adhere to data protection, information governance and security policies.
  • Follow Trust risk assessment, risk management and infection control procedures.
  • Undertake mandatory and role‑relevant training required by CCS.
  • Participate in clinical audits, supervision and relevant emergency preparedness processes.
  • Provide patients and families with information on expected standards and participate in clinical supervision regularly.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Fully qualified registered nurse or registered midwife with current NMC registration.
  • Relevant experience in child and family public health nursing.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake further academic qualifications within two years to progress to the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programme, if available.
  • Strong communication, safeguarding and team‑working skills.
