Job Summary

As an Improving SAIS Uptake Officer, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service, supporting managers and staff across the programme.

NOTE: This post is to provide additional resource to support programmes to do over and above the standard requirements of the service specification in relation to optimising coverage and uptake, it is not to put these standard processes in place.

The post holder will focus on improving the uptake of SAIS across the programme geography.

Responsibilities
  • Work with colleagues in schools with low uptake to drive uptake up.
  • Work with colleagues in PCN/GP practices to ensure individuals vulnerable to non-participation are supported to access catch‑up immunisations.
  • Work with community groups and individuals vulnerable to non-participation to improve awareness of immunisations and access to programmes, offering information in an accessible format and attending community events.
  • Support low uptake schools with additional needs – interpreters, consent returns, etc.
  • Improve communications for schools, produce a webinar for schools, parents and young people, dispelling myths about vaccinations and sharing positive messages and facts.
  • Translate materials and use translators in schools where required.
  • Provide proactive, outward/public‑facing support to the SAIS team in improving SAI uptake across the programme.
  • Act as an integrated member of the SAIS team and wider service, initiating new projects and contributing to existing projects to ensure a quality service is provided to all users.
  • Focus on reducing health inequalities by developing and contributing to interventions for groups vulnerable to non‑participation.
  • Actively support the SAIS team and contribute to achieving key performance indicators.
  • Engage with system partners to improve SAI uptake, providing key knowledge of immunisation programmes.
  • Use evidence and learn from best practice across the region and beyond.
  • Maintain records to produce timely quarterly SAI Uptake reports and end‑year reports contributing to the overall service annual report.
  • Key project priorities (essential)
    • Lowest uptake schools project – prepare SAI uptake project report content, including number of non‑consenters subsequently vaccinated, types of engagement/interventions with external partners (schools, local authorities, ICB, place and third‑sector community groups), evidence of impact of interventions, rationale for interventions based on programme data, evidence of direct contact with stakeholders at school, community and service user level, change in percentage uptake by schools.
    • Enabling patient and public involvement – act as a champion for parents/guardians and young people, ensuring high professional standard in public and patient contact, engaging with community groups for promotion and education sessions.
    • Promoting equality and reducing inequalities – uphold organisation policies, create inclusive environment, implement learning from NHS England Public Health pilots regarding screening uptake among individuals with learning disability.
    • Develop an excellent organisation – ensure health, safety and wellbeing of all staff, ensure compliance with confidentiality and governance requirements, undertake any required training.
