Overview

We’re recruiting for a Receptionist to join our team at Marlborough House, a male medium secure 28 bedded unit situated on the Milton Keynes General Hospital site in Milton Keynes. The site has two wards: Watling Ward (an acute admissions ward with 20 beds and an Intensive Care Unit including a de-escalation lounge) and Chaffron Ward (up to 8 men progressing in recovery but requiring medium secure services). Referrals are accepted from other adult or forensic services, prison or high secure hospitals. Your role will involve controlling access to the buildings via a secure airlock, dispensing security keys, liaising with the public and dealing with telephone enquiries.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for security at the airlock entrance, including signing in visitors and patients on and off the unit, ensuring contraband items are placed in lockers at the entrance and maintaining general unit security.
  • Provide a safe, polite and efficient reception service to visitors and staff.
  • Maintain working relationships with statutory and non-statutory groups connected with the care of the mentally ill, staff of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and other Trusts and hospitals, users and carers of the service, general public and other professionals.
  • Issue keys to staff.
  • Answer phones, transfer to the appropriate person, record messages accurately, respond to queries appropriately, and follow Trust procedures and protocols.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Assist Ward Administrators/Clerks as directed.
  • Filing, scanning and photocopying of documents as directed.
  • Keep the reception area clean and tidy.
  • Ensure the confidential nature of the work is maintained at all times.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Qualifications and Experience
  • This is a varied administrative and customer-service focused role; you’ll liaise with multidisciplinary staff at all levels.
  • Previous experience in a secure mental health setting would be desirable but is not essential.
  • We’re looking for a calm and empathetic communicator with strong attention to detail who can handle a varied workload.
Employment Details
  • Contract type: Part-time, 22.5 hours per week.
  • Shifts: 3 days per week, including early and late shifts (06:30–14:30 and 14:00–22:00) with some weekend work.
