Contract: Permanent, Part-time
Working hours: 30 hours a week, Monday to Friday, flexible hours, 3 days in the Oxford office
Location: Oxford (The Old Music Hall, 106-108 Cowley Road, Oxford, OX4 1JE)

Founded 25 years ago, the Ethical Property Company provides affordable workspaces to charities, community groups, campaigns, and social businesses working for a fairer and more sustainable society. The company has grown steadily and now owns or manages 17 centres across the UK, offering office, retail, and conference space to over 1,000 social change organisations. Flexible leasing arrangements provide tenants with long-term security, and working alongside like-minded organisations offers networking opportunities. The company employs around 100 staff across various cities including London, Oxford, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Bath, Brighton, and Manchester. Our centres are designed to minimize energy use, waste, car travel, and harmful materials, while providing modern, affordable, and flexible spaces managed transparently and supportively.

The Post

The Finance Assistant will manage accounts receivable functions for Ethical Property and The Social Justice and Human Rights Centre, and support accounts payable processes. The role reports to the Finance Manager.

Finance Responsibilities

  1. Using accounting software such as QuickBooks and Sage Intacct:
  • Manage sales ledger by raising rent invoices, tenant recharges, booking invoices, and ad hoc sales invoices.
  • Process monthly direct debit collections from tenants.
  • Upload invoice entries for conference and meeting room bookings.
  • Handle tenant changes in the finance system.
  • Manage tenant deposits and refunds.
  • Allocate receipts, manage customer statements, and respond to queries.
  • Support debt collection efforts and provide debtor reports monthly.
  • Ensure all sales ledger paperwork is scanned and filed.
  • Other tasks:
    • Post bank receipts, support accounts payable, assist with VAT returns and audits, and perform other finance-related tasks as needed.

    • Part-qualified AAT or finalist status.

    • Proficient IT skills, including intermediate Excel and accounts packages.

    Contractual Details

    This part-time role involves 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours between 9 am and 5 pm. Two days per week can be remote. Salary is £22,400 pro rata (£28,000 FTE). The position is based in Oxford.

    Benefits include 25 days' holiday (pro-rata), statutory holidays, pension contributions (3%-7%), life insurance, a company bicycle scheme, season ticket loans, and other benefits.
