Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Eye Care Centre, Ophthalmic Outpatients Department for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant working full and part‑time hours between Monday to Friday.
The eye care centre is an extremely fast‑paced, busy ophthalmic outpatient department. Approximately 4,500 patients attend each month for a variety of ophthalmic conditions and treatments.
As a Health Care Assistant you will assist clinicians undertaking specialised clinics.
This post is rotational, with ophthalmic clinics held in the surgical centre Northwich.
- Gain competency for numerous pieces of equipment.
- Assist all grades of clinicians with clinics.
- Ensure all paperwork is completed correctly and legible.
- Ensure clinics run smoothly.
- Ensure all supplies are stocked.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team.
- Perform basic observations.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of hospital and community services for people across East Cheshire (population 399K) and West Cheshire and Chester (population 357K). - Patients' visual acuity using different techniques.
- Administration of dilating eye drops to patients' eyes.
- Competency in I Care Rebound tonometry.
- Competency for the ocular response analyser (auto tonometer).
- Competency in autorefractor measurements.
- Coordination of specialised clinics such as LASER, cataract clinics, AMD, etc.
- Contribute to the promotion of ophthalmic health for all patients.
- Assist all grades of clinicians with clinics.
- Ensure all paperwork is completed correctly and legible.
- Ensure clinics run smoothly.
- Ensure all supplies and stock are available and well stocked.
- Organisational skills.

- Previous experience within ophthalmology.
- Evidence of learning.
- Evidence of further education.
- Ability to work in a busy environment.
- Previous ophthalmic experience.
- Previous NHS experience.
