Job summary

Vetro Recruitment in Merthyr is seeking a dedicated Young Persons Support Worker to help children and young people with daily activities, independence and wellbeing, including periods of weekend and trips away. You will need a UK driving licence, restraint training (TMVA), an enhanced DBS, and the right to work in the UK.

We offer weekly pay, free meals on shift, training, a pension, and support from a specialist consultant.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or in a social care setting (minimum 6 months).
• TMVA - Restraint Training Certificate.
• Valid UK Driving Licence.
• Current Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Support children and young people in daily activities and interests.
• Promote independence and wellbeing.
• Attend weekends away, holidays and trips with the children.
• Attend weekend and evening activities to support the children and young people in their interests.
• Protect the children and young people from risks to health and welfare.
• Provide emotional and practical support to the young people in your care.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of care plans and guidelines to ensure safety.
• Help minimise incidents when behaviour can be challenging.

What you’ll be doing as a Childrens Worker

• To support the children and young people in all day to day activities and interests
• Restraint Trained, or be willing to undergo the 3 day course.
• To promote the young persons independence and wellbeing
• To attend weekends away, holidays and trips away with the Children
• To attend weekend and evening activities to support the children and young people in their interests. This can range from climbing and baking cakes to weekends away in Butlins.
• To protect the children and young people from any risks to their health and welfare
• To provide emotional and practical support to the young people within your home.
• To ensure the safety of young people by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of care plans and guidelines
• To support, overcome and learn to minimise incidents when behaviour can be challenging.

What you’ll need to have to be a successful Childrens Support Worker

• A desire to create positive outcomes for vulnerable children and young people
• Empathetic, caring and resilient nature
• At least 6 months experience of working with children or within a similar Social Care setting
• TMVA - Restraint Training Certificate
• Valid UK Driving Licence
• Hold a current Enhanced DBS on the update service or are willing to obtain one
• The right to work in the UK
