Job summary

Humly is recruiting in Newton Aycliffe for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a small Year 1 class and one EHCP pupil. You will deliver targeted Phonics support, work closely with the Class Teacher, and help create an inclusive learning environment.

The role suits someone with SEN experience, Year 1 Phonics knowledge, and a patient, nurturing style focused on early childhood development.

Qualifications

• SEN experience: proven experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (ideally 1:1 or with EHCPs).
• Phonics expertise: strong knowledge of Year 1 Phonics.
• Little Wandle: direct experience or knowledge is a big plus (not essential if quick learner).
• A nurturing approach: patient, adaptive, and passionate about helping young learners find their feet.

Responsibilities

Humly is delighted to be working alongside a fantastic, welcoming primary school in Newton Aycliffe to find a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant. This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to work within a wonderfully small Year 1 class of just 14 children. Your time will be split between supporting the general classroom dynamics and providing crucial, tailored support to one lovely little boy with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

What We Are Looking For

SEN Experience: Proven experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (ideally 1:1 or with EHCPs).

Phonics Expertise: Strong knowledge of Year 1 Phonics.

The Little Wandle Advantage: Direct experience or knowledge of the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised scheme is a massive plus (though not strictly essential if you are a quick learner!).
