Job summary

Teach Now Limited is seeking a Year 1 / Year 2 Teaching Assistant to support KS1 pupils with a focus on phonics in a Barnet school.

You will deliver small-group phonics sessions, support whole-class learning, and help create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment. Strong communication, warmth and teamwork are essential for this temporary, full-time role starting September 2026.

Year 1 / Year 2 Teaching Assistant – Phonics Support

Location: Barnet, HA8
Salary: £90-£100 per day
Contract: Full-time, temporary
Start Date: September 2026
Key Stage: KS1 – Year 1 or Year 2

Teach Now is delighted to be recruiting a Year 1 / Year 2 Teaching Assistant for a warm, welcoming primary school in Barnet. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced KS1 Teaching Assistant who enjoys working closely with children and has confidence delivering small-group phonics interventions.

About the Role

Working within either a Year 1 or Year 2 classroom, you will play an important part in supporting pupils academically, socially and emotionally. You will work alongside the class teacher to provide high-quality general classroom support while also taking responsibility for targeted phonics sessions.

  • Supporting pupils across the Year 1 or Year 2 curriculum.
  • Delivering small-group phonics interventions to help pupils build confidence, fluency and early reading skills.
  • Supporting individual pupils and groups during lessons.
  • Preparing learning resources and helping maintain an engaging classroom environment.
  • Encouraging independence, positive behaviour and participation.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and sharing feedback with the class teacher.
  • Helping every child feel supported, included and able to achieve their best.

The school currently follows Twinkl Phonics. Previous experience with Twinkl Phonics would be useful but is not essential; strong practical experience delivering phonics interventions is the key requirement.

About You
  • Has previous Year 1 and/or Year 2 experience.
  • Has hands-on experience delivering phonics interventions or phonics groups.
  • Understands the needs of younger primary-aged pupils.
  • Is warm, patient, enthusiastic and proactive.
  • Can confidently support both whole-class learning and smaller targeted groups.
  • Works well as part of a collaborative teaching team.
  • Is committed to helping children make progress and develop confidence.
