Job summary

Transcomm Recruitment is seeking a Workshop Controller / Manager for a major commercial vehicle manufacturer in Reading. You will oversee day-to-day workshop operations, manage staff, and liaise with service teams, other departments and customers to influence KPIs.

You will coach and develop technicians, ensure quality checks, audits and health & safety compliance, and drive profitability by maximizing productivity and timely repairs.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a commercial vehicle workshop or similar automotive operation.
• Supervisory experience in automotive sector.
• Knowledge of Large Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence legislation.
• Strong people and operations management skills.
• IRTEC/BTEC/City & Guilds qualifications are advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist management in implementing and maintaining effective processes to achieve high customer satisfaction.
• Manage the workshop and train HGV Technicians on a daily basis.
• Generate profit by maximizing technician efficiency and hours sold.
• Collaborate with the Depot Manager to modernize working practices for benefits to business, staff and customers.
• Maintain strong relationships with Warranty/Technical Departments and ensure warranty processes are followed.
• Ensure accurate documentation for each repair and adhere to standard repair times to speed job orders.

Workshop Controller / Manager

A major commercial vehicle manufacturer is looking for a workshop Controller / Managerday-to-day management of workshop and staff. The role holder will also liaise with service team, other departments and customers whilst being the key influencer of department KPIs.

The role is responsible for ensuring all scheduled events are planned and managed with un-scheduled events assigned to suitable HGV technicians ensuring productivity is maximised and deadlines are adhered too. As line manager for technicians the role holder is responsible for coaching and development of the team.

Quality checking, audit and compliance as well as health and safety are also important elements of this role.

Role Responsibilities

• To assist management in implementing and maintaining effective processes to achieve the highest possible customer satisfaction levels.
• To manage the commercial Vehicle workshop, manage and train HGV Technicians on a daily basis.
• Generating Profit: To deliver profit in line with the business plan by maximising technician efficiency and hours sold.
• To ensure strong collaboration with the Depot Manager to introduce change in outdated working practices that offer significant benefit the business, staff and our customers.
• To ensure a strong relationship is maintained with Warranty/Technical Departments and ensure internal system processes are followed using manufacturer systems and Enhanced Diagnostic process in every instance.
• Documentation Quality: To ensure the accurate completion of all relevant documentation for each repair, to be able to follow specific warranty processes and to be able to use standard repair times so that the job order may be processed quickly and efficiently.

Experience Required

Must have workshop management, supervisors experience in a commercial vehicle or similar automotive sector, Good, sound knowledge of Large Goods Vehicle Operators License legislation. Also any mechanical or technician background in commercial vehicles, and either have experience of IRTEC, BTEC or City & Guilds qualifications would be an advantage, but NOT essential.
