Duties of a Workshop Controller:
- Manage the daily operations and performance of the commercial vehicle workshop
- Oversee delivery of high-quality workmanship, ensuring minimal rectification and customer complaints
- Maximise technician productivity and workshop utilisation
- Monitor labour efficiency and address any under performance
- Coordinate the handover of complex or contentious jobs with customers
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer processes, health and safety legislation, MOT regulations, and VOSA standards
- Maintain a safe and professional working environment
- Supervise workshop team members, including technicians and support staff
- Monitor KPIs and ensure departmental targets are achieved
- Assist with the planning and allocation of workloads
- Support continuous improvement and ensure adherence to industry best practices
Requirements of a Workshop Controller:
- Proven experience as a workshop controller, workshop supervisor, or workshop manager within the commercial vehicle or heavy vehicle sector
- Knowledge of VOSA requirements and MOT testing procedures
- Understanding of Operators' Licence legislation and compliance standards
- Relevant technical qualifications such as City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Technology or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make confident decisions
- Good IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office
