Job summary

Transcomm Recruitment Ltd in Reading is seeking a Workshop Controller/Manager to oversee day-to-day workshop operations and staff, liaising with service and other teams while driving KPI performance.

You will plan events, allocate unscheduled work to HGV technicians to maximise productivity, coach the team, and ensure quality documentation, audits, and health and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Must have workshop management and supervisory experience in a commercial vehicle or similar automotive sector.
• Good knowledge of Large Goods Vehicle Operators Licence legislation is preferred.
• Background as a mechanic or technician in commercial vehicles is advantageous.
• IRTEC, BTEC or City & Guilds qualifications would be an advantage but are not essential.

Responsibilities

• Generate profit by maximising technician efficiency and hours sold.
• Collaborate with the Depot Manager to implement beneficial changes in working practices.
• Maintain strong relationships with Warranty/Technical Departments and ensure processes follow manufacturer systems.
• Ensure accurate documentation for each repair and adherence to warranty processes and standard repair times.

Job description

A major commercial vehicle manufacturer is looking for a workshop Controller / Manager day-to-day management of workshop and staff. The role holder will also liaise with service team, other departments and customers whilst being the key influencer of department KPI's.

The role is responsible for ensuring all scheduled events are planned and managed with un-scheduled events assigned to suitable HGV technicians ensuring productivity is maximised and deadlines are adhered too. As line manager for technicians the role holder is responsible for coaching and development of the team.

Quality checking, audit and compliance as well as health and safety are also important elements of this role.

ROLE:

• Generating Profit: To deliver profit in line with the business plan by maximising technician efficiency and hours sold.
• To ensure strong collaboration with the Depot Manager to introduce change in outdated working practices that offer significant benefit the business, staff and our customers.
• To ensure a strong relationship is maintained with Warranty/Technical Departments and ensure internal system processes are followed using manufacturer systems and Enhanced Diagnostic process in every instance.
• Documentation Quality: To ensure the accurate completion of all relevant documentation for each repair, to be able to follow specific warranty processes and to be able to use standard repair times so that the job order may be processed quickly and efficiently.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must have workshop management, supervisors experience in a commercial vehicle or similar automotive sector, Good, sound knowledge of Large Goods Vehicle Operators License legislation. Also any mechanical or technician background in commercial vehicles, and either have experience of IRTEC, BTEC or City & Guilds qualifications would be an advantage, but NOT essential.
