Job summary

SMT GB is seeking a Workshop Engineer in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, to diagnose, service, maintain and repair Volvo Construction Equipment and associated machinery.

Working in the workshop, you will complete service inspections, diagnose faults across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, order parts, and keep accurate job records while upholding SMT GB's safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• A formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Mechanics or a related discipline.
• Experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction plant equipment.
• Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, driveline systems and electronics.
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and customers.
• Basic IT skills.
• A high level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• The ability to understand and follow technical literature, service bulletins and parts manuals.
• Desirable welding, fabrication and line boring experience.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair Volvo Construction Equipment and other machinery as required.
• Carry out repairs in line with quotations and agreed timescales, highlighting any additional work requirements.
• Diagnose faults across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Complete service inspection reports, oil sample reports and other required documentation accurately.
• Record time and job information electronically in real time.
• Order and manage parts required to complete repairs.
• Ensure software updates are installed as new versions become available.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Attend product and technical training to maintain and develop technical competence.
• Work in accordance with SMT GB’s health, safety, quality and environmental standards.
