Job summary

Williams Motor Group is hiring a Workshop Controller to lead an established service workshop. You will balance people, productivity and quality to meet premium automotive standards and drive team development.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Workshop Controller, Workshop Manager or Quality Controller in automotive is desirable.
  • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in automotive-related discipline is required.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy team environment.
  • Professional and positive approach with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Control workshop workflow to meet productivity and efficiency targets.
  • Coach and guide technicians to uphold performance and quality standards.
  • Manage job allocation, progress and completion per customer and business expectations.
  • Collaborate with Service Advisors to ensure a smooth customer journey.
  • Monitor quality, rework and productivity to drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and professional workshop environment.

Average 44.5 hour week | 1 in 4 Saturdays | OTE £44,200

Here at Williams, our Workshop Controllers play a vital role at the heart of our aftersales operation, balancing people, productivity and quality to deliver the standards expected of a premium automotive business.

This is an opportunity to lead an established workshop team, influence day‑to‑day performance and make a real impact on efficiency, customer outcomes and team development.

Earnings and progression

We offer a competitive salary in the range of £35,250 to £40,000, with the opportunity to earn an additional £4,200 through performance‑related bonus.

This is a role where performance is recognised, offering the opportunity to grow your earnings over time while developing your career within a structured aftersales environment.

Working Pattern

This is a full‑time role, working Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm, with Saturday mornings worked on a 1‑in‑4 rota (8.30am-12.30pm).

About The Workshop Controller Role

As Workshop Controller, you’ll take responsibility for the smooth, efficient running of the workshop, ensuring work is planned correctly, technicians are supported, and vehicles are completed to the highest standards.

You’ll work closely with Service Advisors, technicians and management to manage workflow, monitor productivity and maintain quality, while supporting and developing the team around you.

This role suits someone with strong aftersales experience who enjoys leading people, solving problems and driving standards, rather than simply managing tasks.

What You’ll Be Doing As a Workshop Controller
  • Controlling workshop workflow to ensure productivity and efficiency targets are achieved
  • Supporting, coaching and guiding technicians to maintain performance and quality standards
  • Managing job allocation, progress and completion in line with customer and business expectations
  • Working closely with Service Advisors to support a smooth, professional customer journey
  • Monitoring quality, rework and productivity to drive continuous improvement
  • Maintaining a safe, organised and professional workshop environment
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Workshop Manager or Quality Controller within the automotive industry is desirable
  • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds qualification in an automotive‑related discipline
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a busy team environment
  • A professional and positive approach with excellent attention to detail
  • Passion for the motor trade and a strong work ethic
  • Full UK Driving Licence required
