Job summary

RG Setsquare is seeking Winter Maintenance Drivers to support essential highway services across Kent. Operate a gritter and execute winter treatment routes while ensuring safety and efficiency.

Flexibility is required for night, weekend and bank holiday shifts. Previous HGV experience and CPC/Driver Card are advantageous; competitive pay is offered.

Qualifications

• Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence and CPC qualification with Driver Card.
• Previous experience operating HGV vehicles, preferably in highways or winter maintenance.
• Strong health and safety commitment and good communication.
• Ability to work independently, flexible hours including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a gritter vehicle to treat roads and highways.
• Carry out planned winter maintenance routes and respond to weather changes.
• Perform vehicle and equipment checks before and during shifts.
• Monitor road and weather conditions and report defects or incidents.
• Maintain records of work and coordinate with Winter Maintenance team.
• Follow health, safety and environmental procedures.

10 Winter Maintenance Drivers Needed

Location- TN24, Ashford, Kent

• Contract: Winter Maintenance / Seasonal
  Hours: Variable, including nights, weekends and bank holidays

  Currently recruiting Winter Maintenance Drivers to join our team for the winter season, supporting the delivery of essential highway services across Kent.

  This is a vital role in helping keep the road network safe and operational during periods of cold weather, ice and snow. As a Winter Maintenance Driver, you will operate a gritter vehicle to treat roads and highways in line with weather conditions, planned routes and operational requirements.

  About the Role

  Working as part of our winter maintenance team, you will be responsible for safely operating a gritter vehicle and carrying out winter treatment routes across the network.

  Winter maintenance is a fast-paced and highly responsive operation, so flexibility is essential. You may be required to work at short notice and during unsociable hours when weather conditions require treatment.

  Your key priority will be to ensure routes are treated safely, efficiently and in accordance with operational procedures.

  Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a gritter vehicle to treat roads and highways
  • Carry out planned winter maintenance routes in accordance with instructions
  • Respond to changing weather and road conditions
  • Complete vehicle and equipment checks before and during shifts
  • Monitor and report road and weather conditions
  • Ensure salt/gritting materials are applied correctly and efficiently
  • Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Report any defects, incidents or issues promptly
  • Maintain accurate records of work undertaken
  • Work closely with the Winter Maintenance team to ensure the network remains safe and operational

  About You

  We are looking for reliable, responsible and safety-focused drivers who are comfortable working in challenging weather conditions.

  You will ideally have:

  • A valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence
  • Relevant CPC qualification and Driver Card
  • Previous experience of operating HGV vehicles
  • Experience in highways, winter maintenance or similar work would be advantageous
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to work independently and follow instructions
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including nights, weekends and bank holidays
  • The ability to respond to call-outs at short notice when required
