Job summary

Southern Water is seeking a Project Design Lead to assure and deliver engineering design across a broad programme of water and wastewater projects. Hybrid working between Falmer and home, 37 hours per week, permanent contract.

You’ll coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, drive lowest whole-life cost solutions, and ensure safety, environmental and regulatory compliance. This role focuses on design assurance through optioneering, outline and detailed design, construction, and commissioning,

Qualifications

• Essential: Strong experience in an engineering design, design management or technical assurance role within a complex project delivery environment.
• Experience supporting or assuring design across infrastructure and/or non-infrastructure projects in regulated sectors.
• Strong technical engineering judgement to review, challenge and assure designs.
• Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams, including internal teams, suppliers and delivery partners.
• Understanding of project delivery, contract management, design governance and change control.

Responsibilities

• Provide authoritative technical input across needs identification, optioneering, design, construction and commissioning stages.
• Assure the quality of design deliverables across multiple projects.
• Lead in-house outline design and optioneering to select lowest whole-life cost solutions.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams across internal, suppliers and partners.
• Ensure designs comply with technical standards, CDM and regulatory requirements.
• Develop practical solutions with Asset Strategy & Planning and Operations.
