Job summary

Southern Water is seeking a Project Design Lead to assure and deliver engineering design across a broad portfolio. The role emphasises design quality, safety, sustainability and whole-life cost considerations within a regulated environment.

You will coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, challenge solutions and guide decisions from optioneering through to commissioning, while maintaining strong governance and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering design and design management within complex projects.
• Ability to review, challenge and assure designs with strong technical judgement.
• Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary design teams and managing costs.

Responsibilities

• Provide authoritative technical input across needs identification, optioneering, design and commissioning stages.
• Assure design deliverables are robust, compliant and fit for purpose across multiple projects.
• Lead in-house outline design and optioneering to select lowest whole-life cost solutions.
• Coordinate internal teams, suppliers and delivery partners to deliver designs.
• Ensure compliance with technical standards, CDM, HSE and environmental expectations.
• Coach junior colleagues and promote continuous improvement in design practices.
