Job summary

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Design Manager for its Water Optimisation team in the UK. This 6‑month rolling contract offers hybrid working arrangements and requires strong leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams on complex water projects across the UK.

You will coordinate design across wastewater and water treatment/infrastructure, balance technical excellence with commercial and contract management, and develop teams to meet client expectations while advancing towards senior management roles.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering or related field.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with professional institution membership.
• Water industry experience.
• Takes accountability and leads by example.
• Strong people management skills for resource delivery.
• Extensive contract, commercial, project & programme management experience.
• Experience with complex design and delivery frameworks or DB projects.
• Digitally curious and proficient.
• Excellent communicator across organisations and disciplines.
• Proven ability to build and sustain high-performing teams.
• Exhibits Arcadis vision and values.

Responsibilities

• Technically lead and coordinate multi-disciplined wastewater or water treatment projects across the design life cycle.
• Collaborate with clients, partner organisations and supply chain to maintain quality and reputation.
• Build and sustain resources for delivery and identify recruitment needs.
• Work with Framework Director, Project Manager and Commercial team to manage programme and profitability.
• Provide line management, career direction and development for team members.
• Promote safety, quality and sustainability within the project culture.
• Foster innovation and continuous improvement in engineering technology.
• Collaborate with other Arcadis teams to share knowledge and best practice.
