Job summary

Adler and Allan is seeking a Yard Operative to assist the Yard Manager in overseeing depots, inspecting and calibrating kit, and supporting operations. You will help keep stock, prepare collection requests, and ensure safety and compliance across site rules and risk assessments.

The role requires plant operator certificates (forklift/telehandler/excavator <5t), good numeracy/literacy, strong planning and teamwork, and a clean UK driving licence. A professional approach and ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.

Qualifications

• Plant operator certificates required (forklift/telehandler/excavator <5t).
• Good numeracy and literacy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid UK driving licence.
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Safe working practices and site rules knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Work safely at all times and ensure the safety of all those around them.
• Comply with company policies, procedures and risk assessments.
• Support the SHEQ Manager with compliance matters.
• Ensure visitors sign in and understand site rules and risks.
• Complete and maintain records of inspections and maintenance.
• Support Yard Manager and depot operations.
• Maintain suitable stock and equipment levels at all times.
• Prepare requests in a timely manner for collection.
• Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
• Keep depots, yards and parking areas clean and minimize waste.
• Restrict access to unauthorised areas and equipment.

About the Role

The Yard person will need to assist the Yard Manager in managing the organisations depots and ensure that kit and equipment is inspected, tested and calibrated and made ready to support the organisations operations.

What you will be doing

• To work safely at all times and ensure the safety of all those working around them.
• To comply with the requirements of the company policies, procedures and relevant risk assessments and method statements.
• To support the SHEQ Manager with matters of compliance.
• To ensure that all those visiting the site to undertake works sign into the visitors book and are made aware of any risks to their H&S and understand how to follow site-based rules and requirements.
• To complete and maintain records of inspections and maintenance.
• To support the Yard Manager.
• To ensure suitable levels of stock and equipment are readily available at all times.
• To prepare requests in a timely manner ready for collection.
• To represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
• To ensure that the depot, including all yards and parking areas are kept clean, safe and ensure that waste is minimised and stored/treated/disposed of responsibly.
• To restrict access to unauthorised areas and/or equipment.

Qualifications

More About You

• Plant operators' certificates (forklift/telehandler/excavator below 5t).
• Good levels of numeracy and literacy.
• Good analytical skills.
• Computer literate as and when required in the absence of others
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Very effective planning and organisational skills.
• Good manual dexterity and levels of fitness.
• Ability to work on own initiative and take responsibility when necessary and to work as a part of a team.
• Driving Licence (valid for UK) (clean).
