Job summary

Wye Valley NHS Trust is seeking a ward clerk for the Ashgrove ward, a busy 24-bed Frailty unit. You will work with a multidisciplinary team and be the first point of contact for patients and families, handling face-to-face, phone, and email queries with calm professionalism.

The role requires excellent verbal and written communication, strong multitasking, and the ability to prioritise in a dynamic hospital setting on Hereford-based wards.

Qualifications

• IT qualification is required.
• Experience of working in a hospital environment is preferred.
• Strong time management and communication skills are essential (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

• Maintain effective communication with ward staff and external departments using telephone, fax, and email.
• Arrange appointments and transfers on request of nursing and medical staff, liaising with other wards and departments as needed.
• Ensure medical notes are kept in good order and filed promptly after completion by a health care professional.
• Greet and assist patients and visitors, providing a welcoming first point of contact.
• Keep admissions, transfers and discharges information up to date in the patient administration system.
