Job summary

University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement invites applications for a part-time Volunteer Coordinator. The role focuses on developing and supporting a welcoming volunteer programme, coordinating activities across visitor services, education and events, and ensuring volunteers feel valued and connected to the Centre's mission.

You will work on recruitment, induction, schedules and training while balancing conservation and public engagement at a radio astronomy site.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with volunteers or community groups.
• Experience of working in heritage sites, science centres, museums, or visitor attractions.
• Experience engaging diverse local communities.
• Experience recruiting volunteers through multiple channels.
• Strong organisational skills to manage a varied workload.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain volunteering opportunities across the centre.
• Create and update volunteer role descriptions, agreements and schedules.
• Promote and recruit volunteers via databases, email, networks and social media.
• Interview prospective volunteers and manage recruitment administration.
• Coordinate volunteer and work experience schedules for daily activities and events.
• Be the main point of contact for volunteers and provide ongoing support and guidance.
• Ensure volunteers are inducted and trained for their roles.
• Identify training needs and arrange appropriate development opportunities.
• Maintain accurate volunteer records and use the team Kinetic system.
• Coordinate work experience placements with the Education and Engagement Team.
• Foster inclusion and appreciation of volunteers within the team.
