Who We Are

At English Heritage, we believe heritage is for everybody. It lives in places and people, memories and stories, artefacts and traditions, connecting us to the past and to one another. We care for over a million objects and hundreds of historic sites across England, making them accessible and inspiring for all.

We are looking for two Volunteer and Community Engagement Managers to join our teams working either across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, or North Yorkshire and East Riding. The roles are full-time and permanent, working 36 hours per week and require some flexibility and weekend working, as well as regular travel around the location.

The Benefits

- Salary from £26,409, depending on skills, experience and location

- 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, rising to 28 days after 3 years

- Matched pension contributions up to 10%

- The opportunity to progress your career within the heritage sector

- Subscriptions to professional bodies

- Free access to all English Heritage sites for you and up to six friends and family members

- 25% discount in our shops and cafes

- Enhanced maternity, paternity or shared parental leave

- Options to buy additional leave

- An inclusive working atmosphere where everybody is supported from all backgrounds, religions and with different needs

- Opportunities to go to some of our great live music and history events

This is a great opportunity for experienced volunteering and community engagement professionals to build on and diversify their skills working with a wide range of communities. Building new exciting partnerships and engagement programmes, you will put our places at the heart of the local community.

Your Role

As a Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager, you will be a key member of our team in the north, growing our volunteering and community engagement programme through a range of activities, partnerships and volunteering opportunities.

We are offering two roles, working across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire, or North Yorkshire and East Riding.

You will support our mission by leading and developing initiatives that foster strong connections between the sites and their local communities. Developing and delivering engagement programmes and recruiting and managing volunteer teams, you will develop engaging and relevant experiences for our visitors, under-represented audiences and local communities, maximising opportunities for public engagement with sites and ensuring they are well cared for.

As part of the regional Volunteer & Engagement team, you will also contribute to operational site management of free to enter and Guided Tour sites, including H&S, and will be responsible for the management of formalised partnerships (such as Local Management Agreements). You will support the financial sustainability of English Heritage by fostering in-kind support, community fundraising, and developing partnerships to enhance visitor experiences.

About You

To be considered as a Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager, you'll need:

- Relevant experience of managing a diverse volunteering programme - ideally across multiple sites.

- Experience of working with a range of people from the local community.

- A track record of working with external partners and community stakeholders.

We will be holding an informal webinar for people to find out more about the role on Friday 29 August at 3.30pm - 4.30pm. Please email us to register (details will be provided when you select the apply button).
