Job summary

The University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement is seeking a proactive Volunteer Coordinator to develop and coordinate a welcoming, inclusive volunteer programme. You will recruit, induct, train and support volunteers across visitor services, events and work experience, working closely with Education and Engagement teams.

This is a permanent, part-time 0.5 FTE role based on-site at Jodrell Bank, with some evening and weekend work.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with volunteers or community groups.
• Experience in heritage sites, science centres, museums, or visitor attractions.
• Experience engaging diverse communities.
• Experience recruiting volunteers through multiple channels.
• Excellent administrative skills and ability to develop systems.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain volunteering opportunities across Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement.
• Prepare volunteer role descriptions, agreements, schedules and information.
• Promote and recruit volunteers via databases, email, networks and social media.
• Interview volunteers and handle recruitment administration.
• Coordinate schedules and ensure coverage for activities and events.
• Be the main point of contact for volunteers, providing support and encouragement.
• Ensure volunteers are inducted and trained.
• Arrange training and development opportunities.
• Maintain volunteer records and the volunteer management system.
• Coordinate work experience placements with Education and Engagement Team.
• Support volunteers to feel integrated and valued.
• Administer travel expenses and arrange spaces for rest.
• Develop partnerships with community organisations.
• Promote inclusive volunteering and work experience.
• Collect feedback and use insights for continual improvement.
