Job summary

IDEXX in Wetherby is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician on a one-year contract, full-time, to join the Hematology team supporting veterinarians across the UK.

You will perform CBCs and coagulation testing using automated analyzers and microscopes, prepare samples, and read results in accordance with SOPs, contributing to rapid, accurate diagnoses for beloved pets. Training is provided, with strong emphasis on accuracy and teamwork.

Qualifications

• BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
• Lab experience is a plus; hematology or blood smear experience is an advantage but not essential — full training is provided.
• A positive, team-oriented attitude and comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Ability to follow SOPs, use computers for data entry, and multitask with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to meet physical requirements, including standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and specific vision requirements.

Responsibilities

• Use automated hematology analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic tools to perform CBCs and coagulation testing.
• Prepare and evaluate blood, bone marrow, and body fluid samples, flagging abnormal results for pathologist review.
• Set up and run lab tests, and read and release results according to SOPs.
• From day one, work within a team, with full autonomy and support to help vets diagnose pets quickly.
