Job summary

Catering in Leicester is seeking an experienced Vehicle Maintenance Technician to join a busy commercial vehicle maintenance operation. The role offers permanent employment, a competitive hourly rate of £21.70, and a rotating shift pattern with early and back shifts.

You'll service and repair heavy vehicles, complete inspections and defect reports, and ensure vehicles are safe and compliant with MOT/testing requirements. Full training and career progression are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience working on heavy commercial vehicles.
• Knowledge of automotive equipment and diagnostic/troubleshooting equipment.
• Experience with vehicle servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Welding experience.
• Basic DC electrical fault-finding skills.
• Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.
• A valid UK driving licence.
• Relevant vocational training or vehicle maintenance qualifications.
• An LGV C+E licence would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

Location: Leicester
Salary: £21.70 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts, with an hour of flexibility around the back shift

We’re recruiting for an experienced Vehicle Maintenance Technician to join a busy and established commercial vehicle maintenance operation in Leicester.

Working Hours

The role operates on a rotating shift pattern:
Week 1: 6:00am – 2:30pm

30-minute unpaid break
Week 2: 12:30pm – 9:00pm

Back shift
There is approximately one hour of flexibility around the back-shift hours for the right candidate.

The Role

As a Vehicle Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for:

• Servicing and repairing commercial vehicles in line with planned maintenance schedules.
• Ensuring vehicles and trailers remain safe, legal and fit for operation.
• Completing service and inspection records accurately.
• Completing defect reports and associated paperwork.
• Preparing vehicles and trailers for annual MOT testing.
• Carrying out ad-hoc repairs and investigating vehicle defects.
• Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical and electrical faults.
• Working safely and efficiently to required standards.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced Vehicle Maintenance Technician / HGV Technician / Commercial Vehicle Technician with:

• Experience working on heavy commercial vehicles.
• Knowledge of automotive equipment and diagnostic / troubleshooting equipment.
• Experience with vehicle servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Welding experience.
• Basic DC electrical fault-finding skills.
• Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.
• A valid UK driving licence.
• Relevant vocational training or vehicle maintenance qualifications.
• An LGV C+E / Class 1 licence would be advantageous.
