Job summary

Royal Mail in Leeds is seeking a Level 3 qualified mechanic at Leeds Workshop on a permanent contract with a base salary of £40,906 plus shift allowances. The role offers overtime potential to reach £75k+. You will maintain a fleet of 49,000+ vehicles in a modern workshop, performing inspections, diagnostics and repairs.

Applicants should have IMI Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, own toolkit, and a full UK driving licence. Night and weekend shifts are included.

Qualifications

• Qualified mechanic to advanced level (IMI Level 3) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
• Proven experience working on a wide range of HGVs and trailers.
• Own toolkit for standard repairs and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and trailers.
• Carry out routine maintenance using personal toolkit and shared workshop tools.
• Work within a modern, fully equipped workshop environment.

Working Hours

Full time - Average of 39.5 hours per week over the 6 week shift pattern including a 30 minute unpaid meal break rotating shift pattern;

• Week 1 – 06:00 – 15:00 Wednesday to Sunday
• Week 2 – 06:00 – 15:00 Monday to Friday
• Week 3 – 13:00 – 22:00 Monday to Friday
• Week 4 – 06:00 – 15:00 Monday to Wednesday and 06:00 until 15:00 Saturday and Sunday
• Week 5 – 06:00 – 15:00 Monday to Thursday and 06:00 until 10:00 Friday
• Week 6 – 21:30 – 06:00 Monday to Thursday

Whilst there is some flexibility in relation to non-working days, these must be agreed with the workshop manager at the point of appointment and will be subject to operational requirements.

• You’ll perform a full range of inspections, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures on a range of HGV vehicles, trailers, and mechanical equipment.
• You’ll use your own personal toolkit to undertake routine maintenance and repair heavy goods vehicles.
• You’ll also have access to specialist tooling and shared equipment in our modern, fully equipped workshops.

A Bit About You

• Qualified mechanic: you’re fully qualified to an advanced level (IMI Level 3 in Heavy vehicle maintenance or equivalent). You’ve got your own toolkit for standard repairs.
• Varied vehicle experience: Proven Vehicle Technician experience working on a wide range of vehicles, for example HGV.
• Valid UK driving licence: You hold a full manual UK driving licence, preferably an HGV licence with trailer experience.
• High working standards: you take pride in your work and do what is necessary to make sure the job is done effectively.
• Flexible to service demands: you’re able to work on a flexible shift rota. You’re always willing to support your team where necessary.
