Job summary

The Met Office invites applications for a User Researcher Industrial Placement, a 12-month Year in Industry starting July 2027. This full-time placement offers hands-on experience in user research within the UCD team, with a hybrid model and minimum one day in the office per week.

You will support recruitment, observations, data synthesis and reporting, helping to champion user-centred design across the organisation while developing skills for a career in research and product teams.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of user research and ability to explain basic methods.
• Awareness of analysis and synthesis of research data.
• Advocacy for user-centred design across the business.
• Ability to communicate with stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to collaborate in an agile, iterative environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for user-centred design teams including recruitment, note-taking, presenting findings, and creating reports.
• Collaborate with teams, promoting effective teamwork and feedback.
• Analyze research data to produce clear findings.
• Support in conducting basic user research methods.
• Follow a user research plan and standards.
• Adopt an open-minded, iterative approach.
• Adhere to Government Digital Service Standards and best practices.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Advocate for the UCD team within the Met Office and explain value of research.
