Job summary

The Met Office invites applications for two Data Engineer Industrial Placements for a 12-month Year in Industry starting July 2027. Salary is £27,170 with 27.5 days annual leave and a hybrid work pattern, attending the office at least once a week.

These placements focus on building services in the Machine Learning Operations team, supporting data processing and weather/climate forecasting initiatives. Applicants should be pursuing a degree in CS/Data fields with programming experience.

Qualifications

• Studying toward a degree with a placement year.
• Experience with Python/Java/Scala/R and data engineering concepts.
• Understanding BI systems and data flows is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Understand and work with different data types used at the Met Office.
• Transform data using scripts and methods, and share the importance of data engineering.
