Job summary

The Met Office invites applications for a 12-month Year in Industry placement in Observations Research & Development, starting July 2027. The role blends office and remote work in a hybrid setup, with a minimum of one day in the office per week.

Qualifications

• Geospatial and/or data science tools to analyse datasets and draw conclusions.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience writing code in Python or similar language.
• Interest in how real-world environmental data is collected and used; understand QA importance.
• Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly within a team.

Responsibilities

• Work with observations scientists, radar specialists and network protection experts to evaluate case studies of real-world impacts to the radar network.
• Apply geospatial, statistical and visualisation techniques to a variety of datasets to extract meaningful information and metrics.
• Develop knowledge and skills associated with observations network analysis.
• Produce regular technical verbal and written briefings for internal colleagues on the findings and recommendations.
