Job summary

Teaching Personnel are recruiting a dedicated Learning Support Assistant for a SEMH school in Colchester. You will provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs and assist teachers in delivering a tailored curriculum.

Ideal candidates are patient, resilient, and capable of building positive relationships with young people. A background in youth work or sports coaching is a bonus. Competitive weekly pay and CPD opportunities offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or SEND needs.
  • Patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships.
  • Calm under pressure and able to support pupils with emotional/behavioural needs.
  • Passion for helping young people achieve positive outcomes.
  • Previous sports coaching or PE interest is a bonus.

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work at one of our SEMH schools in Colchester!

The school supports boys aged 10-16 with a range of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a safe, supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve both socially and academically without limits.

The Role:
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Supporting students to engage positively with learning and develop emotional regulation skills.
  • Building strong, consistent relationships to help pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering a flexible and personalised curriculum tailored to individual needs.
  • Encouraging pupils to make positive choices, build confidence, and develop independence.
  • Supporting behaviour management strategies and promoting a calm, structured learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behaviour, care, or youth work backgrounds. (Desirable)

  • Is passionate about helping young people achieve positive outcomes.
  • Previous sports coaching or PE based hobbies would be a bonus!

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
