Job summary

Vale View Day Centre in Lancaster is seeking an experienced kitchen lead to prepare menus, control portions and provide dietary meals for elderly residents. You will ensure high hygiene and safety standards while managing service points, ordering supplies, and stock counts.

The role includes supervising kitchen staff, applying menu planning and stock-control expertise, and catering for large numbers. Weekend pay enhancements apply, with a pro-rata salary for part-time 25 hours.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in menu planning and stock control.
• Demonstrated ability to cater for large numbers.
• Experience in supervising staff within a kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of food costing and stock control.
• Understanding of specialised diets and basic nutritional needs.
• Awareness of basic hygiene and Health & Safety requirements.
• Proficiency in the correct use of kitchen equipment and utensils.

Responsibilities

• Prepare menus, portion control and provide special dietary meals for elderly residents.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and Health & Safety in the kitchen.
• Oversee service point operations, record-keeping, stock ordering and stock counting.
• Supervise other kitchen staff to ensure safe and effective work.
• Apply knowledge of menu planning, stock control and catering for large numbers.
