Job summary

Dalston, Carlisle — Weekend Food Service Assistant is a part-time role with 23 hours per week. You will prepare and serve meals, maintain kitchen hygiene, and support colleagues in a fast-paced workplace catering setting.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a cook, chef or similar in a busy catering environment.
• Relevant catering qualification such as NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds 706/2.
• Confidence in preparing and cooking meals independently.
• Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene and allergen requirements.
• Ability to take responsibility for a shift and support the catering team.
• Organisational skills to manage priorities during busy periods.
• Positive, reliable and flexible approach.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently while remaining part of the wider team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and serve a range of fresh meals.
• Ensure smooth operation of catering during shift.
• Maintain food safety and hygiene as per menus and standards.
• Keep food hygiene and safety documentation up to date.
• Follow allergen procedures and dietary requirements.
• Organise food preparation to ensure timely service.
• Support and guide fellow catering colleagues.
• Monitor food quality, presentation and portions.
• Manage stock levels and store ingredients correctly.
• Minimise waste and use ingredients efficiently.
