Job summary

Hitachi Rail Limited in the UK invites applications for an Engineering Delivery Manager to lead the Light Rail Portfolio. This role combines strong technical leadership with stakeholder management across UK and Europe, with hybrid work from our Cheadle office and regular travel to sites.

You will oversee bids, delivery governance, and cross-functional teams to ensure projects meet scope, budget, and schedules.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in systems engineering management within rail or infrastructure projects.
• Experience growing and scaling a portfolio of projects.
• Experience and knowledge of whole systems engineering lifecycles for large complex systems.
• Breadth of experience across engineering disciplines.
• Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, motivation and inter-personal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee engineering projects from initiation to completion, on time, within scope and budget.
• Lead the delivery of the engineering scope within bids and business development activities.
• Develop and own the engineering approach across the UK Light Rail portfolio.
• Ensure high-quality standards for software and hardware development.
• Coordinate with international teams and the customer for governance and delivery.
• Support the development and growth of the engineering team within the portfolio.
• Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
• Support portfolio meetings with technical input to schedules and statements.
• Track contract deliverables and act as main technical contact for customer concerns.
• Maintain PBS/WBS/OBS documentation and related artifacts.
• Provide technical support to contractors and resolve emergent issues.
• Own and coordinate gate reviews (PDR, CDR) throughout lifecycle.
• Support programme reporting and quality assurance reviews.
