Job summary

Mencap is recruiting for a full-time Tutor/HLTA in Worcester to support learners with learning disabilities in a Supported Internship programme. You will deliver the educational element, including employability skills and functional English & Maths from Entry to Level 2, with potential progression to Level 5 qualification.

The role requires a recognised teaching qualification or HLTA status, experience with diverse learners, and strong behaviour management.

Qualifications

• Qualified teaching or HLTA status and willingness to undertake Level 5 qualification.
• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above.

Responsibilities

• Create dynamic and engaging lessons that integrate English and maths with employability skills.
• Develop essential life skills to help learners navigate their communities independently.
• Design innovative lessons that spark curiosity and love of learning.
• Collaborate with team to provide holistic learner support and help secure paid employment.
• Deliver accredited functional skills in English and Maths up to Level 2.
• Full planning time provided to focus on planning and administrative tasks.

Join our vibrant Supported Internship programme in Worcester!

We are recruiting for 1 x full time (37.5 hours/week) Tutor/HLTA to be part of a supportive team dedicated to helping young people with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism access the world of work. Mencap's Internships combines education and work experience to prepare our learners for employment. As a Tutor you will focus on the delivery of the educational element of Supported Internships programmes to include employability skills, functional skills English & Maths, from Entry level to Level 2

If you are a Higher level Teaching Assistant we will support you to gain a level 5 qualification.

Qualifications:

• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS) is preferred. However, candidates with a Level 3 qualification or HLTA status and willingness to undertake a Level 5 qualification post-probation will be considered.
• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above.

Experience:

• Experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism.
• Experience in delivering functional skills in English and Maths up to Level 2.
• Proven ability to deliver against targets and KPI's.
• Experience of working with a diverse range of learners.
• Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.

Desirable:

• Experience in delivering functional skills in English and math.
• Experience working in a supported internship setting.
• Knowledge of employment-related skills and training.
