Job summary

Mencap is recruiting for a full-time Tutor/HLTA to join the Supported Internship programme in the Black Country. The role focuses on delivering educational elements, employability skills and functional English & Maths from Entry to Level 2 for learners with learning disabilities, difficulties, and/or autism.

You will create engaging lessons, develop practical life skills, and collaborate with the team to help learners access paid employment.

Qualifications

• Experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism.
• Experience delivering functional skills in English & Maths to Level 2.
• Proven ability to deliver against targets and KPI’s.
• Experience with diverse learners and strong behaviour management.

Responsibilities

Join our vibrant Supported Internship programme in the Black Country! We are recruiting for 1 x full time (37.5 hours/week) Tutor/HLTA to be part of a supportive team dedicated to helping young people with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism access the world of work. Mencap's Internships combines education and work experience to prepare our learners for employment. As a Tutor you will focus on the delivery of the educational element of Supported Internships programmes to include employability skills, functional skills English & Maths, from Entry level to Level 2. If you are a Higher level Teaching Assistant we will support you to gain a level 5 qualification.

Do you have the key skills and requirements for a Tutor? (essential):

Qualifications

• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS) is preferred. However, candidates with a Level 3 qualification or HLTA status and willingness to undertake a Level 5 qualification post-probation will be considered.
• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above.

Experience

• Experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities, learning difficulties, and/or autism.
• Experience in delivering functional skills in English and Maths up to Level 2.
• Proven ability to deliver against targets and KPI’s.
• Experience of working with a diverse range of learners.
• Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.

Desirable

• Experience in delivering functional skills in English and math.
• Experience working in a supported internship setting.
• Knowledge of employment-related skills and training.
