Job summary

Oakhill Secure Training Centre is seeking a Public Health Practitioner to lead the development and delivery of a public health programme within the establishment, coordinating healthcare, education and psychology colleagues.

This role emphasises trauma-informed, child-centred practice and involves data analysis, audit work and collaboration with NHS England, UKHSA and local authorities to improve health outcomes for young people in custody.

Qualifications

• Public health background or related professional training.
• Good understanding of health promotion and preventive care.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver health promotion programmes with input from young people and those with additional needs.
• Increase screening uptake and coordinate routine vaccinations and seasonal campaigns.
• Deliver sexual health education and smoking/vaping reduction initiatives.
• Support infection control and outbreak preparedness in the setting, liaising with UKHSA.
• Ensure continuity of care during transfer, release and transition to adult services.
• Analyse data, conduct audits and report findings to senior leaders.
