Job summary

Justteachers Ltd is seeking a dedicated Support Learning Assistant to join a trauma-informed Regulation Zone provision near Newark-on-Trent on a full-time, permanent basis starting in September.

You will work with Key Stage 3 pupils who have SEMH needs, supporting their emotional regulation, learning engagement, and behaviour support plans.

The role emphasizes wellbeing, consistent relationships, and collaboration with teachers and pastoral teams to create a safe, nurturing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH in schools, alternative provisions, or care settings.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and its impact on behaviour and regulation.
• Confidence using de-escalation techniques and maintaining a calm presence.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable pupils.
• Relevant qualifications such as Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Psychology, or Health & Social Care, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted support within the Regulation Zone to help pupils manage emotions and return to learning.
• Build trusting, consistent relationships with students using a trauma-informed approach to behaviour.
• Support SEMH needs through de-escalation, emotional coaching, and guided reflection.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral teams to implement individual support plans and strategies.
• Encourage positive engagement with learning by offering reassurance, structure, and clear expectations.
• Create a safe, nurturing environment where pupils feel secure and ready to re-engage with lessons.
