Job summary

Newland St John's Church of England Academy is seeking an Education and Welfare Support Officer to work with our pastoral team, safeguarding leads and external agencies to guide and support students facing emotional or social challenges. You’ll deliver one-to-one and small group interventions, liaise with families and coordinate external services to boost attendance and welfare.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed ELSA practice, bereavement support, and engagement with families while upholding

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and young people.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of safeguarding legislation.
• ELSA experience with trauma-informed practice and therapeutic interventions.
• Bereavement support, Lego Therapy, Sandplay, Drawing & Talking.
• Familiarity with the ATTEND framework or openness to training.
• A relevant degree or mental health qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support vulnerable pupils, including those with SEMH needs, with one-to-one and small group interventions.
• Liaise with families and coordinate external support services.
• Contribute to attendance and welfare strategies.
• Perform home visits and contribute to safeguarding processes.
• Work with external agencies (Social Workers, Police, Youth Justice).
• Help ensure safeguarding and well-being of students and promote safe learning.
