Job summary

Academics is recruiting an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to work in a Pupil Referral Unit in the Merthyr Tydfil area. The role focuses on delivering targeted emotional literacy interventions and supporting pupils who have experienced trauma or face challenges.

You will work with teaching staff to promote emotional regulation and build positive relationships, creating a safe and nurturing environment while using trauma-informed practices. DBS/EDUCATION workforce requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) is essential.
• Experience delivering emotional literacy interventions to children and young people.
• Understanding trauma-informed practices and impact of adverse experiences on behaviour and learning.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils with complex emotional needs.
• Team Teach qualification would be highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver targeted emotional literacy interventions to support pupils' social and emotional development.
• Support pupils who may have experienced trauma or face emotional and behavioural challenges.
• Use trauma-informed practices to build trust, promote emotional regulation and develop positive relationships.
• Help pupils develop coping strategies, resilience and confidence.
• Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to support individual pupil needs.
• Create a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for pupils.
