Job summary

DHL Supply Chain in Ashton-under-Lyne is seeking a Transport First Line Manager to lead daily transport activities and drive operational excellence. You will manage a high‑performing team, ensure compliance, and contribute to continuous improvement across the transport and warehouse functions.

Ideal candidates will have proven people management experience in transport, familiarity with transport office operations, and strong MS Office skills. A CPC Level 3 qualification is advantageous.

• Proven people management experience within a transport environment.
• Previous experience working within a transport office or wider supply chain operation.
• Strong understanding of working within a unionised environment and building positive working relationships.
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications; Tachomaster is desirable.
• Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to embrace change and support new processes.
• International CPC Level 3 qualification would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coordinate productivity and ensure deadlines are met safely.
• Ensure drivers are legal and compliant daily and communicate across transport/warehouse functions.
• Lead the work activities of drivers and transport clerical team with effective leadership.
• Carry out HR tasks such as staff reviews, absence management and disciplinaries.

Pay Rate: £30,000 per annum - Plus Annual performance related bonus)

Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time)

Shift patterns: 06.00am - 14.00pm Mondays - 08:00 - 16:00 Tuesday to Friday (Flexibility is required)

We are looking for a Transport First Line Manager to join our fast-paced operation, where you will play a key role in managing daily transport activities, ensuring compliance, and supporting a high-performing team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• To supervise, implement and coordinate productivity by communicating job expectations to direct line reports, ensuring that all deadlines are safely met within allocated time frames, while always maintaining standards of excellence


• Ensure drivers are legal and compliant on a daily and weekly basis and ensure clear communication between all functions within the transport department and the warehouse team


• To lead the work activities of the drivers and the transport clerical team, providing effective leadership, communication, motivation, training and development


• Carrying out HR Management tasks such as staff reviews, appraisals, absence management and disciplinaries

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Proven people management experience within a transport environment, with the ability to lead, motivate and develop teams


• Previous experience working within a transport office or wider supply chain operation


• Strong understanding of working within a unionised environment and building positive working relationships


• Competent in Microsoft Office applications; experience using Tachomaster is desirable


• Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to embrace change and support the implementation of new processes and ways of working


• International CPC level 3 qualification would be advantageous but not essential
