Job summary

DHL Supply Chain in Rugby is seeking a Transport First Line Manager to lead daily transport operations on a permanent, full-time basis. The role responsibilities include safety, compliance, driver coaching, and system-driven optimization to meet service levels.

You will manage performance, ensure O‑Licence compliance, and work hands-on with the team to deliver reliable logistics solutions. A proactive leader with strong planning and IT skills will thrive in this role.

Qualifications

• Experience in transport, logistics or operations leadership.
• Proven ability to coach and develop teams.
• Strong planning and problem-solving skills.
• Hands-on approach to support operations when needed.
• Good IT skills with MS Office and WMS exposure.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring activities are delivered safely and compliantly.
• Ensure full compliance with O‑Licence requirements and transport legislation.
• Manage driver performance, engagement and wellbeing through coaching and 1:1 meetings.
• Ensure drivers have training, tools and support to perform their roles.
• Monitor vehicle compliance and report defects promptly.
• Drive a strong safety culture with high health, safety and compliance standards.
• Develop, motivate and inspire your team to achieve operational and customer excellence.
• Analyse operational performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Work closely with colleagues and utilise WMS and transport systems to support success.

Salary: £33,500.00 per annum

Grade: N

Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time)

Shift patterns: Monday to Friday, Rotating, 0500-1300 & 1000-1800

What you’ll do

• Lead the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring all activities are delivered safely, efficiently and compliantly.
• Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence (O‑Licence) requirements and transport legislation.
• Manage driver performance, engagement and wellbeing through regular communication, coaching and structured one‑to‑one meetings.
• Ensure all drivers have the appropriate training, tools and support to perform their roles successfully.
• Monitor vehicle compliance, ensuring defects are reported and resolved promptly.
• Drive a strong safety culture by maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and compliance.
• Develop, motivate and inspire your team to achieve operational and customer excellence.
• Analyse operational performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Work closely with colleagues and utilise Waitrose WMS and transport systems to support operational success.

What You’ll Bring

• A positive, proactive leadership style with the ability to engage and motivate teams.
• Experience in a transport, logistics or operational leadership role is desirable.
• Strong coaching, mentoring and people management skills.
• Excellent organisational, planning and problem‑solving abilities.
• A hands‑on approach with a willingness to support the operation when required.
• Good IT skills, including experience with WMS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• A commitment to delivering high standards of service, safety and compliance.
