Job summary

Dumfries and Galloway Council is seeking a motivated Trainee ICT Support Technician to join the ICT & Digital team in Dumfries. You will receive training while supporting first-line ICT services, maintaining devices, networks and Microsoft 365, and learning through hands-on work with experienced ICT professionals.

The role offers a fixed term of up to 18 months with a Band 3 salary, and a strong focus on developing technical, customer service and problem-solving skills across the Council.

Qualifications

• Educated to SCQF Level 5 with passes in Computing Science, Information Technology, Digital Technologies or related disciplines.
• Interested in ICT and keen to develop a career in ICT.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, Windows and Microsoft 365.
• Awareness of digital technologies, networking concepts and cyber security principles.
• Good problem-solving skills with a logical, methodical approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with colleagues and customers.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and develop technical knowledge.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently when required.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Positive attitude and commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line ICT support to users across the Council.
• Assist in maintaining desktop devices, laptops, mobile devices, software and networks.
• Contribute to service improvements and digital transformation initiatives.
• Assist with installation and maintenance of ICT equipment and resolving technical issues.
