Job summary

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is offering a structured Trainee Cable Jointer programme across West London, Slough, Theale, Oxford, Swindon, Melksham and other locations. You gain practical experience while earning a wage, with a clear progression path to become a qualified Cable Jointer.

The scheme includes funded training lasting 18–24 months, salary progression, tools and PPE, and a company vehicle toward the end of training, with opportunities for overtime and ongoing career

Qualifications

• Customer-focused with ability to build relationships with customers and colleagues.
• Good hand skills, including using hand tools and fixing meters to boards.
• Thirst for knowledge and ability to learn quickly in a team environment.
• Strong focus on Health & Safety and adherence to safety standards.
• Full UK driving licence held or obtainable.
• Willingness to travel to Thatcham Training Centre and other regional locations.

Responsibilities

• Preparing cables and carrying out jointing and terminations.
• Assisting on LV (415V–1000V) and HV (11kV–33kV) networks.
• Supporting excavation, installation, and repair works and assisting with maintenance and refurbishment of substation equipment.
• Working safely and promoting a strong safety‑first culture.
• Delivering excellent customer service during planned and emergency work.
