Job summary

SSEN Distribution, part of the SSE group, seeks a Trainee Cable Jointer to maintain and upgrade the underground electricity network. This is a hands-on, outdoor role with training, delivering a structured programme over 18–24 months and a salary progression path.

You will join a team responsible for jointing, installing, and repairing cables, with safety as a core value and opportunities to earn through overtime. Training is provided.

Qualifications

• Customer-focused with ability to build relationships with customers and stakeholders.
• Good hand skills using hand tools and fixing meters to boards.
• Thirst for knowledge, quick learner, and team player.
• Strong emphasis on Health & Safety and following safety motto.
• Proactive and flexible, plans and delivers high-quality work with safety in mind.

Responsibilities

• Preparing cables and carrying out jointing and terminations.
• Assisting on LV and HV networks (415V–33kV).
• Supporting excavation, installation, and repair works and refurbishment of substation equipment.
• Working safely and promoting a safety-first culture.
• Delivering excellent customer service during planned and emergency work.
