Job summary

SSEN Distribution is recruiting a Trainee Cable Jointer to install, joint and repair cables across the network. This hands-on role starts with funded training over 18–24 months, with salary progression as you upskill and gain authorisations. You’ll work outdoors, travel to regional locations, and earn while you learn in a structured programme.

Expect a safety-first environment, ongoing development, and a clear path to becoming a qualified Cable Jointer with career stability.

Qualifications

• Be customer-focused with a natural ability to build relationships.
• Strong hand skills and ability to work with hand tools.
• Full UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Preparing cables and carrying out jointing and terminations.
• Assisting on LV (415V–1000V) and HV (11kV–33kV) networks.
• Supporting excavation, installation and repair works and assisting with maintenance and refurbishment of substation equipment.
• Working safely and promoting a strong safety-first culture.
• Delivering excellent customer service during planned and emergency work.
