Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Trainee Cable Jointer to help maintain and upgrade the underground electricity network across multiple locations. This hands-on, outdoor role involves joining, repairing cables, and responding to faults while training for a nationally recognised qualification.

The programme lasts 18–24 months with on-the-job training, a buddy system, and progression through a skills-based pay matrix. A full UK driving licence is required.

Qualifications

Be customer-focused with ability to build relationships.
Hand skills with meters and electrical work.
Thirst for knowledge and training, quick learner.
Strong focus on Health & Safety; follow motto “if it's not safe, we don't do it.”
Proactive and flexible; plan effectively, use initiative; full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

Preparing cables and carrying out jointing and terminations
Assisting on LV (415V–1000V) and HV (11kV–33kV) networks
Supporting excavation, installation, and repair works and assisting with maintenance and refurbishment of substation equipment
Working safely and promoting a strong safety-first culture
Delivering excellent customer service during planned and emergency work
